Senior Scholarship Opportunity--Ron Brown Scholar Program.  Applicants must be African-American and demonstrate: academic achievement, exhibit leadership ability, participate in community service and
demonstrate financial need.  The award may be up to $40,000 for 4 years.  Apply online at www.ronbrown.org.  Transcript and recommendations must be sent together by November 1st.  See Mrs. Hoyt in Guidance if you have any questions.

Senior Scholarship Opportunity for males who plan on attending the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana.  Psi Upsilon Fraternity will award a $1750, $500 and a $250 scholarship to incoming male freshmen who exhibit high moral, intellectual and social excellence.  Applications may be filled out on-line at www.illinipsiu.com.  Deadline is September 20th, 2010.  See Mrs. Hoyt in Guidance if you have questions.

AES Engineers is pleased to be able renew our scholarship offer for 2010.The applicants are not required to be taking Engineering courses to be eligible. How to Apply: Students must submit an essay of no more than 1000 words in answer to one of the two questions that are posted on our site:    http://www.aesengineers.com/scholarships.php of award:   $500.00 Deadline for entry: October 8, 2010 

Applications are now being accepted for  FY-2011 Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps scholarship.  The application process begins online at https://www.nrotc.navy.mil. This is a full 4 year scholarship for up to $180,000.  This covers full tuition, books,fees uniforms and a starting monthly stipend of $250.00  After graduation, student enters the Navy as a commissioned officer.  There is no obligation incurred on the part of the student until the first day of sophomore year in college.  Minimum requirements are:
ACT:  Math 21  English 22
Top 10% of class.  This scholarship is also for nursing.  Any questions--see Mrs. Hoyt in Guidance.

 

Financial Aid


How to apply for Financial Aid
1. Obtain a copy of the Federal Financial Aid Form (FAFSA) from the Guidance Office in December.
2. After January 1st, you must complete and mail in the form.  OBSERVE DEADLINES! Be sure to make and keep a copy for yourself.
3. Be sure to save a copy of your tax return and also your parent's tax return for IRS verification.
4. We do have sample forms and help books in Spanish.

We urge you to visit the Federal Student Aid Website  and complete the FAFSA application online. You will receive a faster response through this channel.

How to Apply for National and Local Scholarships
1. Scholarship opportunities are updated and posted weekly by the Guidance Department.
2. A list of local scholarships, including deadlines, will be posted in the Guidance Office.
3. To obtain a scholarship application, see the Guidance Office Scholarship files, sign your name on the front of the scholarship folder and take a copy.  Notify the secretary to replenish more copies of the last application in file.
4. Submit a resume for a Counselor letter of recommendation(if desired) and allow two weeks for first time processing.
5. You must be prepared with resume information such as activities and club participation, sports involvement, awards, and special recognition as well as employment experience and post high school plans.
6. Be sure all requested materials (including pictures) are completed and submitted by their designated deadlines!! Turn in applications in person.
7. Please include envelope, with stamp where applicable.
8. National Scholarship information is also available from College catalogs, the  Military, College View, etc. The College Scholarship Service .

Senior Year Check List

SEPTEMBER
  - Review graduation requirements, GPA and class rank.
   - Finalize the list of colleges/trade schools to which you want to apply.
   - Check the daily bulletin, calendar of events on our school's Guidance website and Guidance display case for college and trade school representatives who will be visiting.
   - Sign up to take the ACT or SAT if you have not done so or if you have not achieved the score you wish.
   - File an early graduation form with your counselor if you plan to graduate early.
   - Start preparing for the application process by completing your senior information sheet and requesting catalogs and applications.

 

OCTOBER
  - Attend college night at E.C.C. if you have not selected a college/trade school.
   - Request recommendations and give teachers and counselors the forms.
   - File early-action and early-decision applications.
   - If not applying early, file applications for schools with early deadlines.
   - Fill out a request for transcript form in the Guidance office.
   - If you haven't already visitied colleges/trade schools, take advantage of upcoming holidays to do so.

NOVEMBER
  - Begin to research scholarships. Check the daily bulletin and scholarship websites.
   - Write and polish any required essays

 

DECEMBER
   - Take the SATII if its required by your college.
   - If you are planning on attending E.C.C. come to the Guidance Office to pick up a catalog.
   - Turn in all applications to your Guidance counselor and make sure transcripts are sent.
 January
   - Begin to work on your financial aid forms after you and your parents compute your respective income tax forms.
   - Be sure that all forms, recommendations, and test scores are on file at the institutions to which you'd like to be considered for admission. Continue to watch for local scholarships.
 FEBRUARY
   - Send mid-year grade reports to college/trade school that have requested them.
   - Keep your grades up. College acceptance is only conditional and bases on continued good performance.
   - Make sure that you have submitted the financial aid form that your college requires.

 MARCH
   - Expect to hear from colleges/trade schools that have requested them.
   - If you plan to attend E.C.C., attend the field trip.
   - Take the placement tests required by E.C.C.

 

 

 APRIL
   - Review college/trade school acceptance and compare financial aid offers.
   - Decide which school to attend, send in your deposit and notify other colleges/trade schools of your decision.
   - If you have not done so, attend the career fair at E.C.C.
 MAY
   - Take advantage of the orientation and registration program at E.C.C. if you plan to attend
   - Fill out the appropriate form with the Guidance or Main Office secretary to have your final transcript sent to the college/trade school you plan to attend next fall.
 

Transcript Requests

Transcripts will be provided for students that have graduated in the past two years ONLY. Any prior graduates must request transcripts from District Records at 355 E. Chicago St. Elgin, IL 60120.

To send or receive an official transcript from Streamwood High School, stop by the Guidance Office and fill out a transcript release form.
1. Fill out this form completely.  The transcript request form must be signed.
2.  Graduating Seniors, for every transcript request over 5, there will be a $3.00 charge. This charge can be paid with a money order, cash or personal check. If a personal check is received, your transcript will be held for two weeks until the check is cleared by the bank.

NOTE TO SENIORS: You MUST submit an official transcript with your college application. Also, after graduation, you MUST submit a final transcript to the college that you will attend. Both transcripts are your responsibility!
If you are a graduate or former student of Streamwood High School (only within the past three years):

This letter must include the following information:
1. Your current name printed(and what it was while a student, if different).
2. Your signature
3. Year you graduated (or year you would have graduated)
4. Address where you would like the transcript to be sent.
5. Your social security number
6. Your birth date
7. Cash or money order for $3.00 per transcript (NO credit cards)
8. A daytime phone number where you can be reached

Note: The Registrar cannot accept requests that are e-mailed or sent by fax.  Also, the turn around time for transcripts has been changed from 24 hours to 36 hours.
