This was a successful year for our Battle of the Books team. Our students read from a list of seventy books and then, along with 31 other teams from area schools, answered questions given by librarians. Each question answered correctly earned the team five points with an additional point being earned for correctly identifying the author or the illustrator of the book. We had students on our team who memorized all seventy authors and sixteen illustrators! By the end of the B.O.B. season, our students had accumulated 489 points which put them in second place district wide.
First, second, and third place teams were recognized at the Battle of the Books final event on Tuesday, March 9. All teams were invited to attend and students met John Hendrix, illustrator of the picture book Abe Lincoln Crosses a Creek. Participant’s names were entered into a drawing for prizes as well. Each student received a certificate of completion and coaches received next year’s B.O.B. reading list. Congratulations to all our Battle of the Books students on an outstanding win!
