Physical Education

Physical Education- My name is Deborah Brener and I am your child’s physical education teacher. This is my forth full-time year at Channing and I am looking forward to another great year. I received my Bachelors of  Science in Education from Northern Illinois University and have also studied ballet at the Lisa Boehm School of Ballet. I value physical fitness and hope to motivate your child to get and stay physically fit. I have many exciting activities for those participating in the After-School and Intersession programs.

On your child’s scheduled gym day, please remember the following: It does become very hot in the gym and extra articles of clothing such as undershirts or long sleeves should not be worn because they may cause heat exhaustion. For safety reasons your child is required to wear tennis shoes. Remind your child that they are to tie their shoes the conventional way with the laces tightly tied on top of the shoe. For safety reasons I will not allow any other way of lacing, especially the fashion attempt to turn it into a loafer.  If your child can’t tie his/her shoes, please double tie them in the morning. Also, girls must be aware that since we stretch out every day in gym, skirts or dresses should not be worn. Please ask your teacher what day your child has gym so he/she can be ready to participate and have fun. Thank you in advance for your attention to these matters.
