WELCOME TO THE HARRIET

GIFFORD ELEMENTARY SCHOOL LIBRARY

Expected Library Behavior

All students at Harriet Gifford are expected to behave respectfully, responsibly and safely when visiting the library.  That means:

  1. Quiet WHISPER voices
  2. Help keep the shelves neat and orderly - this helps you find books when you are looking for them!
  3. No running around or jumping off the story stairs
  4. Hands to yourself
  5. Be good listeners during read-aloud story.
  6. Bring back your library books and check out new ones.  If you forget one of your books, you can renew your book, but may not check out a new one until the other is returned.
  7. DO NOT LET YOUR FRIENDS TAKE HOME BOOKS THAT ARE CHECKED OUT IN YOUR NAME! - If a book is checked out in your name and your friend loses or ruins it - YOU are responsible to pay for the book.

Library Policy

Harriet Gifford students will visit the Learning Center each week. In order to maintain what we consider to be a good, up-to-date library collection, students must adhere to the policies outlined for you below:

·         Kindergarten and Primary students may check out one book each week.

·         Students in third, fourth, fifth and sixth grade may check out two books each week.

·         If a student is not finished reading a book and wishes to do so, he/she can bring the book back to the library for renewal.

·         We do not charge library fines for items returned late, but if a student forgets to return his/her library book, he/she will be reminded of the title, and will not be able to check out another book until the first one is returned.  AFTER 2 WEEKS, THE ITEM WILL BE CONSIDERED “LOST”.

·         EACH STUDENT WILL BE HELD RESPONSIBLE for items he/she checks out from the Learning Center. If a book is returned DAMAGED BEYOND REPAIR OR LOST, the student will be charged the replacement cost for the item, plus a $1.00 processing fee. The student will lose all library privileges until payment is made.

·         If a book is believed to be lost and paid for, but later found and returned in good condition, the money will be refunded in full, minus the $1.00 processing fee.
