PTO NEWS
- Oct 19-21 School Book Fair. See the attached flyer. We need volunteers for the bookfair set-up on Friday, 10/16 starting at 1pm. Even if you can only come for 45 minutes, it would help. We also have no volunteers yet for Monday, 10/19, from 9:30-1:50. If you can spare an hour to be a cashier at the bookfair, let me or Debbie Bohn(our bookfair chairperson) know when you're available and we'll get you on the schedule.
- Oct. 20th - Evening - Ice Cream Social/Bookfair : Hope to see you this evening - we know everyone enjoys the free ice cream in the cafeteria, as well as the chance to buy some new books up in the library. Our profits on this bookfair will be used to buy new books for the classrooms. The classrooms will also be filling out wishlists if you want to donate directly. We will have a raffle where you could win $20 worth of free books, as well as other items.
- Oct. 20th - Tues. Evening - Ice Cream Social/Bookfair : Volunteers Needed to pull this off! We are now scheduling 30 minute shifts from 6-8pm to scoop ice-cream or work the book fair. If you're scooping ice cream, your child can be there with you - even helping with the toppings if they want - or just eating their ice-cream. We'd like to have 4 adults in each location at all times - so that means we need over 30 volunteers. Please let me know if you're available and at what time. (last year we scooped out over 300 bowls of ice-cream)
- Fundraising news: Can't get the school what they need without our fundraisers - so thanks to those of you who bought entertainment books. Our goal this year is modest - to raise $15 per student - and we have a ways to go to get there. (you know, if you don't like the fundraising stuff, you can always just donate directly to the pto) We hope more of you like our next fundraiser: Sally Foster wrapping paper/candy fundraiser starts next week-with orders due in by Nov. 3rd. We are hoping to raise $8,000 through this fundraiser - so please, give it a try.
- PBIS - do you know what this is? Ask your student.(Hint: have they earned any gold stars? Have they been responsible, respectful, etc? Was their name drawn from the box? The pto will be funding this program this year.
- Parking Lot Protocol: The school had a professional traffic control expert from Hoffman Estates provide the guidelines/rules that they are trying to enforce in our drop-off/pick-up parking lot. The safety of our children is the main concern. When you follow these rules, the traffic flows much better. Please remember to pull up and around as far as possible - past the flag - and quickly let your children out of the car. We can fit over 15 cars easily along the sidewalk. Please don't stop by the gates where the first graders go in. Everyone then is stopped behind you - and there is a huge unused sidewalk in front of you. The students are old enough/capable of walking for 2 minutes along the sidewalk to their line - even in the rain. There are teachers outside starting at 7:45 to watch the kids. Many parents are also by the doors. For a little perspective, please remember that we have 300 students who take the bus each day. They somehow manage to walk all the way from the bus parking lot to their door - even the 1st graders, even in the rain - without a problem.
-
Yes - things happen. A discussion starts right at drop-off, can't find something, they ask for you to watch them in line, etc. Well - if this happens, please just pull around into a space and park. The aggravation that is caused by not following these rules is pretty high. Also - our crossing guards get very little business. Please consider letting your children walk a couple blocks to school. As the weather gets colder, even more people start driving to school - and try to get as close to the door as possible. Please remember that our children go out for recess for 20 minutes every day - even in winter. So though it is nice of you to try and get close to the door for them, or you try to drop them off at the last minute so they don't get cold - please keep in mind that this really isn't helpful to the traffic situation. If you don't like the parking lot drop-off rules, you always have the option of parking your car and walking your child to the door - which several parents do.
- Oct. 21st- Market Day frozen food orders are due. This monthly PTO fundraiser had a great start last month - thanks for trying it. The pick up date is Oct. 25th, 5:15-6:15pm.
