How is the AVID course graded? The two major components that make up your AVID class grade are the Tutorials and the Binder. Other assignments will be included throughout the year that will enrich the student's AVID experience. These supplementary assignments will enable students to work on goal setting and career planning.
TUTORIALS: A tutorial is a collaborative group that is focused on clarifying challenging concepts, reviewing for tests and solving troublesome homework problems. The tutorials are facilitated by a tutor. The tutors are trained to generate discussion by asking questions to encourage students to arrive at their own answers. Students prepare questions prior to attending the tutorial session. The tutorials are graded based on the level of questions prepared, cooperation and attitude during the discussion and the notes and summaries that are completed as a result of the tutorial session.
BINDERS: The 3 inch binder will contain the class schedule, sections tabs for each class and all papers for the current semester including notes, handouts, tests, worksheets and all graded papers. The student's planner should also be inside the binder. Binders are turned in at the beginning of each class period. Points are awarded for organization, Cornell notes, summaries and questions.
