Kimball Middle School’s
Summer Reading Program

Summer is a great time to get a good book and relax! Reading during the summer can help keep your mind active and get a head start on learning! Students who will be attending Kimball Middle School this coming fall are asked to read at least 3 books that they have not read before, from our book list. These books were selected for the variety of levels and genres.

After reading each book, students should complete a book report. Students are encouraged to type their report or use lined notebook paper. Be sure to write in complete sentences.  Book Report forms will also be available at registration in August.

Listed below are the elements that should be included on the top of the report:
·        Title of book
·        Author and/or Illustrator
·        Genre
·        Number of pages in book
·        Copyright date or year
·        2 facts about the author

Write a paragraph answering each question:
·        What is the problem of the story? If non-fiction, describe the topic.
·        How is the problem solved?
·        Describe the main character (or other characters) in the book? If there are no characters, describe an object from the book.
·        Describe the setting of the book. When and where does it take place?
·        Write a plot summary of the book with at least 10 things that happen. If non-fiction, tell ten things that happen in the book.
·        What part did you like the most and why? Who was your favorite character and why?

A Parent Signature is required on each book report. Book Reports will be due to your Reading Teacher by Friday, September 4, 2009.

All of the books are available on a special shelf at the Gail Borden Public Library. They can also be purchased at local book stores.

Happy Reading!!
