Dr. Duane R. Meighan has been an educator since 1998 and has spent his entire career in School District U-46. Dr. Meighan’s teaching experience spans elementary, high school and college. Dr. Meighan has served brief stints as high school special education teacher, high school special education divisional/dean, and the principal of Hillcrest elementary since 2005. Dr. Meighan is also a part time Adjunct Professor in the ESL department at Elgin Community College.

Dr. Meighan earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in English Literature from Northern Illinois University and his Master’s in Special Education from Northeastern Illinois University. Dr. Meighan holds a Doctor of Education Degree in Leadership in Administration from Aurora University.

Dr. Meighan’s current research interest is centered on evidence based strategies for closing the achievement gap at the elementary level in the critical areas of literacy and math. Dr. Meighan believes that given sufficient time and support, all students can make the state standards regardless of their situation.

Dr. Meighan, Ayanna, and their 3 children (ages 7, 3, and new born) currently reside in Elgin, Illinois. Dr. Meighan enjoys spending time with his family and friends, eating good food, and reading and writing.
