Hanover-Countryside Elementary Principal - Leslie Kleiman

BIOGRAPHY

Leslie Kleiman began her career teaching first grade in Chicago before coming to U-46 in 1972.  She subsequently taught developmental classes at Laurel Hill and Bartlett elementary schools, and first grade at Wayne Elementary before taking the job at Ridge Circle Elementary as an intern principal in 1998.  Leslie holds a BS degree in elementary education from Loyola University, and an MA in LD/EMH from Northeastern Illinois.  She completed administrative coursework at Northern Illinois University and Concordia College where she earned her Type 75 certificate. She has been at Hanover Countryside for 6 years.

As principal, Kleiman has continued to spend time teaching in a classroom. Every year she works with a reading group at one grade level. She spends time in the classroom teaching her reading group several times each week. Last year she worked with a fifth grade group and for the 2006-07 school year she is working in a first grade classroom.  Spending time in the classroom keeps her excited about teaching and gives her a first-hand knowledge of what her teachers are experiencing in the classroom.

Her goal is to make Hanover Countryside a true learning community for both students and their teachers.
