And the winners are...

The Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program started on September 16 at Huff School. The theme for September was “Put a Rainbow on your Plate”. Fruit choices included: watermelon, strawberries, oranges, cantaloupe, pineapple, bananas, red and green grapes, and plums. Fruit break was provided on Tuesdays through Fridays.
The winners of the “Pick Me” poster contest were: preschool student Tochel Ayala’s “Corn”, 3rd grader Maria Brito’s “Apple”, 3rd grader Arturo Nunez’ “Sparkling Fruit”, and 4th grader Hailey Soto’s “Go Veggies”. Each winner received a gift certificate to Elgin Fresh Market. Honorable Mention was also awarded to: Ileene Gomez (preschool), Christopher Penaloza (1st grade), Guadalupe Sandoval (5th grade), and Victoria Valadez (6th grade).

In October, fresh vegetables will be added to the FFVP menu. Students will be encouraged to overcome the “Vegetable Fear Factor” and try fresh vegetables. Tuesdays through Fridays will continue to be the days when fresh fruits and vegetables are available.

Thank you, Mrs DeHaan, school nurse, thank you, lunch moms!

Frutas a escoger: sandia, fresas, naranjas, melón, piña, plátano, uvas, rojas y verdes y ciruelas.
